Snohomish-Eastside Rail Corridor

A Snohomish Rail Station may some day be a reality if the Port of Seattle plans to purchase the Eastside Rail Corridor from BNSF Railway ever go forward. Because the northern terminus of this corridor extends across the Snohomish River into town, (a portion the port is not purchasing) the City Council established a citizen advisory committee last year to analyze how this may affect our City. The advisory committee membership was carefully selected to ensure a broad representation of community interests and includes residents, local businesses, youth, and members of City boards and commissions.

Very preliminary, concept-level alternatives are being developed in order to examine the advantages and disadvantages of various locations. Analyzing these will help the City advocate for an outcome which will most benefit our community. Final rail station locations, however, will not be decided by the City. They will likely be decided by the rail operator(s). The committee's work includes taking input from the general public. An open house has been scheduled in April as part of an ongoing public process.

For more information about the Eastside Rail Corridor, please attend the Rails and Trails Citizen Advisory Committee (RTAC) open house. Public Open House 7:00-8:30 pm Monday April 6, 2009 Snohomish School Resource and Service Center 1601 Avenue D, Snohomish, Washington Information is available on the web at www.ci.snohomish.wa.us.
